Tuberculosis Services
TB or Tuberculosis continues to remain in the United States, as well as Kentucky.
It is divided into Active or Latent TB. Active TB is a highly contagious disease and is spread through respiratory droplets (i.e. coughing/sneezing). Latent TB simply means the person has been exposed to TB at some point, however the person is NOT contagious. Active cases are closely monitored through DOT (Directly Observed Therapy). A Health Department nurse visits the patient daily to ensure they are taking their TB medications and to observe for side effects. TB skin tests are performed on at risk groups within our community to help eliminate TB. Services available include screening, treatment and follow-up for those at risk of acquiring active disease and for those with active disease to assure a cure.
